Separate words using Flash Fill in Excel

While working on Excel sometimes we need to separate out words from a single column to multiple columns. Today we’ll be learning to separate First name, Middle name and Last name from a single column to multiple columns using Flash Fill in Excel.

As you can see in the image name cell contains the first name, middle name and last name. Now type the first word and then select the rest of the cells till where you want to get the first name. Then go to Fill > Flash Fill and done.

First Name

Do the same for middle name

Middle Name

and for the last name too.

Last Name

Flash fill is very useful when only middle name is required not the others. This can be done using text to column option using space delimiter if you want all the words to separate it out.

Note: Flash fill is working only for the adjacent column only.
